Samurais Joins Warriors in the Top 16

The Blue Samurai celebrates their victory against The Danish

What a proud day it was for all Asians across the entire world. Not only did South Korea got through to the World Cup 2010 knock-out stage, but Japan too beats all odds to secure a spot in the Top 16. Japan trashed Denmark 3-1 to qualify for the Knock-Out round amking not only their nation proud but the whole of Asia as well. Japan became the second Asia team to qualify for the Knock-out Stage making them a threatening underdog for the World Cup 2010.

The Blue Samurai coach announced earlier before the game that Japan could still advance into the next round with just a draw resulting for the Danish to expect nothing but a win so they could move forward. Little did they know, Japan came into the game with guns ablaze as they not only win but trashed the Danes into a 3-1 victory. Keisuke Honda and Yasuhito Endo score a goal each after scoring from free-kicks and Shinji Okazaki wrapped up the game with a last minute tuck in delivered by Honda.

Keisuke Honda was the Man of The Match after scoring and assisting Japan to a trashing win

Japan had a strategic game plan and they stole many hearts with their calm and cool strategy and marking Denmark's probably best striker, Nicklas Bentder. Not once did The Blue Samurais looked like they were intimidated with Tha Danish big name. Although Denmark took control of the ball possession since kick-off, Man of the Match; Keisuke Honda delivered a beautiful free-kick that went straight pass the defense walls and the goalkeeper and netted into the top corner of the goal in the 17th minute.

Denmark, not phased by the goal from Japan took control again but they were short on finishing. Jon Dahl Tomasson came closest to level Denmark but Japanes keeper Eiji Kawashima cleared the ball off the field. Denmark became restless after Yasuhito Endo's 30th minute free-kick found the Denmark goal again, setting Japan 2 goals ahead of Denmark. It was quite a nightmare for Thomas Sorensen; Danish keeper, who failed to stop both of Japan's free-kick. He almost let slipped a third one but managed to clear the ball away with his fingertips.

Denmark looks threatening in the second and Japan still maintain their cool despite losing possession. However, Samurai's skipper, Makoto Hasebe, conceded a penalty in the 80th minute with a push to Denmark and Liverpool FC's central defender, Daniel Agger. Tomasson missed his first shot but manages to place the rebound ball back into the net which earn Denmark 1 goal. It still was not enough for Denmark who had to win the game in order to qualify.

The game became intense in the last few minute with Japan looking rather exhausted and looking to waste time but it was not at all expected when Honda threateningly drove the ball into the box and instead of taking the shot himself, passes the ball to the unmarked Shinji Okazaki, who clipped the ball into the goal changing the score sheet from 2-1 to 3-1.

Fans waved the Rising Sun flag with pride

The Blue Samurai celebrated their most outstanding victory together with their adoring fans all clad in blue and white. They gave a team bow to their fans and promises to make their nation proud of the team. Japan did not only make their country proud. Just like the Taegguk Warriors, they made the entire Asia proud of their victory. The boys biggest aim for this year's World Cup 2010 is to reach the semis and expert pundits have stated that if Japan to maintain their cool mentality and strategy, they might be able to make that prophecy come true. Japan's biggest achievement was in 2002 when they made through to the Knock-Out stage as well. Japan will meet Group F's winner, Paraguay on Monday.
